Rugby MP Mark Pawsey visited the Free School one year on from its official opening
13th February 2017 (official press release)
One year after Rugby Free Primary School officially opened, local MP Mark Pawsey dropped by the school to see the progress being made under Headteacher Susan Milewski.
The school, which took on its first pupils in September 2015, is now home to over 100 pupils. The first cohort of students, which Mark met last year, are now in Year 1 and a new intake of reception pupils having started in September.
During his visit, Mark was shown around the school and met with the different classes studying there. Mark was able to see the lessons the pupils were taking part in, including the free form learning that the Reception classes have and the more traditional classroom learning for the Year One pupils.
Mark was also able to speak with Susan Milewski about the future plans for the school and their work with other schools, including a visit by pupils from Brooke School at Christmas.
Mark said:
“I was delighted to be able to come back to Rugby Free Primary School and see for myself the tremendous progress the staff and pupils have made since the school has opened. I was particularly impressed by the pupil’s enthusiasm and excitement for being in school, which they were clearly learning from the schools excellent teaching staff.”
Mark continued:
“What is most impressive is the sense of community that runs throughout the entire school, with all the pupils there made to feel welcome. This shows in the way pupils greet visitors to the school and their interactions with the staff there. I saw many different styles of teaching and heard from some of their Year One pupils about the change from Reception to Year One.”
Mark concluded:
“Rugby Free Primary School’s Headteacher, Susan Milewski, also was able to talk to me about the school’s plans for the future. This includes their collaboration with the Rugby Free Secondary School, which opened it’s doors to pupils only a few short months ago. It is really quite inspirational when I think about how far the school has progressed and some of the challenges it has overcome since opening and I look forward to seeing how they advance in the future.”
