Class Organisation
At Rugby Free Primary School, our organisation is unique. Each year group has a focus author and the class names are based on characters from their books. Each class will have a class ‘special book’ which has their class character in and this will be the first book the children share in September.
Our Reception year’s chosen author is Julia Donaldson. Their class names, Delightful Dragons, Marvellous Monkeys and Wonderful Whales, are based on animal characters from her books.
Our Year One’s chosen author is Martin Waddell. Their class names, Brilliant Bears, Remarkable Rabbits and Outstanding Owls, are based on animal characters from his books.
Our Year Two’s chosen author is Roald Dahl. Their class names, Gorgeous Giraffes, Fantastic Foxes and Curious Crocodiles, are based on animal characters from his books.
Children are taught by all the teachers within the year group team however they have a key class teacher who teaches them every morning.
Each of our classes has a maximum of 20 children in them.
Within each class, there are two house groups of 10. As our school has a big focus on Computing, we have named these groups after the control robots/ toys which the children enjoy using. Each child will be either a Blue Bot or a Rugged Racer.
These groups are the child’s House group and they earn House points to be the winning team each week.
In the morning, the children are taught in their classes and focus on learning their English, Mathematics and Phonics. In the afternoon, each class splits into these two house groups of 10 and joins with their House group from the other classes to focus their learning on P.E., Science, R.E., P.S.H.E., Music, Computing and Topic.
Essentially, this means we can facilitate more targeted, personalised learning for each child whilst also developing their social skills and giving them the opportunity to mix with all the children in their year.
